INSCI is a series of international conferences on Internet Science that were initiated in 2013 within the framework of the FP7 European Network of Excellence in Internet Science -  EINS.  The goal of EINS is to coordinate and integrate European research aimed at achieving a deeper multidisciplinary understanding of the development of the Internet as a societal and technological artefact which  increasingly evolves with human societies.
So INSCI conference aims at pursuing the main EINS objective that consists in  creating a real open and productive dialogue   between all the disciplines which study Internet systems under any technological or humanistic perspective.

Aim and Scope

Internet Science is a multidisciplinary field based on computer and communication science but covering many other disciplines like mathematics, sociology, anthropology, physics, complex systems analysis and control, economics, law, political Science, literature, history, teaching techniques, etc.
It constitutes a very broad concept that includes the technical parts concerning protocols and connections, but also the contents and applications, and, more important, the people. Internet is changing our lives, and therefore many crucial questions arise: How do people behave in the Internet? Are they changing their lifestyle and how? Can Internet promote sustainability, cooperation and collective intelligence? Can it support open democracy and policy making? How can the awareness of possibilities and dangers of Internet be promoted? What about topics like intellectual properties, privacy, reputation and participation? What are the juridical aspect of Internet? What about arts and humanities in general?

The sixth International Conference on Internet science, INSCI2019, aims at providing a high-level international forum of discussion around these questions. It  will be also an opportunity  to develop new ideas and collaborations on all the aspects of Internet Science.

Parallel sessions of the conference are  devoted to self-organized workshops, for instance for promoting a project, diffusing its results and/or gathering impressions and comments. It will be organized during the last day of the conference and will be open-access to everybody.
During the past editions of INSCI and in the explorations done by the Network of Excellence “Internet Science”, the following aspects have been considered:

  • 2015: Societies, Governance and Innovation
  • 2016: Openness, Collaboration and Collective Action
  • 2017: Technical and social approaches for a human-centric, democratic, and trustworthy Next Generation Internet
  • 2018: Internet in World Regions: Digital Freedoms and Citizen Empowerment

INSCI 2019 that will be hosted by the University of Perpignan, aims at gathering researchers from all the above-mentioned disciplines as well as industry professionals that are interested in giving Internet a better place and evaluate the best Internet practices. It will give a good opportunity to make a bridge between the academic and industrial communities in North and South countries in order to converge to a noble idea of the role that internet should play.

The  proposed  theme will focus on:

  The Internet and geopolitical crossroads

It will deal with the development of practices, platforms and communication channels to promote the integration of  South Europe, Mediterranean, African and Latin America countries in peaceful world, promotion of discussion and political freedom, migrant problems, health, citizen participation.
